Current Research

Ongoing Master’s of Science research on the topic: Development of mass propagation system for elite varieties of Kava (Piper methysticum). The objectives include;

      To determine that site-specific soil characteristics does affect the presence or absence of Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV).

      To establish a stock of clean plant material (tested negative for CMV) of selected varieties to be used for establishment of kava tissue cultures.

      To improve a micropropagation protocol for the rapid multiplication of the selected kava varieties.

Recent Highlights

Aided in the designing and erection of the new tissue culture laboratory in the school that would not only suffice my research project but, also enhance the plant physiology and tissue culture research for the PIC’s. Research interests me, I like assisting current post graduate students as it expands my knowledge and not to mention the sampling sites are awesomely adventurous.
